Good Neighbors, Inc.
Caring and sharing with our community since 1957

In the Beginning...

It was a simple beginning when Laura McClure of North Akron responded to a friend, Frances Watson, a visiting nurse, by helping to secure clothing for a family in need.

From the meeting of these two caring women grew a vital county-wide volunteer organization with ten locations where clothing, linens, and household items are provided, at no cost, to those families or individuals who are referred to us.

And Now...

Since our founding in 1957, hundreds of volunteers have given Good Neighbors their time, talent, and in many cases, their treasures. Currently, more than 300 individuals are working as Good Neighbor volunteers. The organization has only one paid employee, a part-time secretary-treasurer.

Our Good Neighbors supporters include churches, synagogues, foundations, civic and social organizations, businesses, schools, and many private individuals.

In addition to our help with day-to-day struggles, there are two times during the year when we make an extra effort.

Back to School. We believe every child should have something new to begin the school year. During summer, we hold our back-to-school drive to help make sure that happens.

Christmas. This is often a sad time of year for those in need. We try to change that by providing food, toys and gifts for thousands of individuals in our communities.
