Good Neighbors Needs Your Help

Please see our Current Special Needs list, below.

Good Neighbors, Inc., a 501(c)(3), not for profit, charitable organization was founded in 1957. Our philosophy is simply Good Neighbors helping good neighbors who are in need of a little help.

We can only help those in need to the extent that others make provisions available, either in kind or through monetary donations. You may designate contributions to support any of the ten locations or for our general operations. You may send or deliver donations to any location. For a list of locations, please see the Locations page on this site. Contributions are generally tax-deductible.

We closely monitor and control our administrative and operating expenses to maximize the benefit of contributions.

We rely on many area agencies to qualify those in need and refer them to us:

  InfoLine, Inc.
Summit County Children Services
Family Services of Summit County
Community Support Services, Inc.
Public Health Nurses
Area Churches and Synagogues
School Teachers and Counselors
Akron-Summit County Action
Akron Urban League
United Services for All
Battered Women's Shelter
Area Hospitals

On-going Needs

We have a continuing need for the items we distribute throughout the year:

  Food

Clothing for all ages,

New born and infant supplies

Bath, bed, and kitchen linens

Small, essential household items:
Pots and pans, small appliances,
dishes, lamps, fans, etc.

Two special events during the year require more specific items:

Back-to-School Program. We believe that every child should have something new for the first day of school. To that end, during the summer months we concentrate on acquiring school supplies of all kinds and some school-appropriate clothing.

Christmas Season. Our Christmas program provides food, toys, and gifts for thousands of individuals to help make the holiday special.

Current Special Needs

The needs of our community and your contributions often do not align perfectly. Thus, from time to time we have a need for additional donations of specific items. Currently these include the following items.
  • School clothing
  • Men's clothing, size "XL"
  • Bed sheets and towels
  • Nonperishable foods
  • Office supplies
  • Volunteers for the North Hill and Firestone Park locations
  • Space for the Firestone Park location, secure, with 24-hour access

For details about these current special needs, please call our business office at 330.733.1453.
